VAG-COM
Discussion List Rules

  1. Keep posts on-topic!   If it doesn't have anything to do with computer diagnostics of VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda cars, don't post it. This list is not a swap-meet, it is not a chat room, it is for on-topic discussions only.

  2. When posting questions related to a problem you are having with a particular car, always state the exact make/model/year/engine of car you are having a problem with.   Also tell us any modifications you have made to the car.   Incomplete information will often get you no answer, or worse yet, the wrong answer.

  3. When posting questions related to VCDS itself, always state the version number (you can find it on the Opening Screen and the About Screen)  and details about the PC (make/model/CPU/Operating-System)

  4. If you are having problems with a function that requires the Registered Version of VCDS, please state that you are a registered user and include enough information in your post to allow us to identify you as such.  Your full name and postal code will usually suffice.    Do not bother us with posts saying things like "I can't match keys to my immobilizer" or "I can't reset my service Indicators" unless you are a legitimately registered user and are willing to show evidence of it.

  5. Before asking any question, please take the time to read the  Manual and FAQ, and Issues/Revisions page

  6. When posting questions involving trouble codes, post the complete code(s), and the text that comes with them.  Do not omit anything, and don't drop any digits, not even a leading zero!   An Auto-Scan is always ideal to provide this information!   More info: see the "PS" portion of this post.

  7. Questions about design and construction of home-made interfaces are Off-Topic, as are connection problems if you're using a home-made/third party interface.

  8. When posting replies, please use this protocol.

  9.  HTML mail is discouraged. If you must send HTML mail, please keep the formatting simple, preferably black on white and a common font such as Courier or Arial, in a reasonable point size.

  10. One-liner "smartass" replies are strongly discouraged.

  11. Flames directed at anyone but me will not be tolerated on this list.  Beware, however,   if you flame me, I reserve the right to defend myself.

  12. Asking for/offering illegal copies of software such as VESIS/AESIS/ETKA/ELSA or asking for/offering passwords or cracks is strictly forbidden. The same goes for EEPROM and flash dumps.

  13. Discussing how to roll back odometers is forbidden.  VCDS can't roll back odometers!

  14. It is off-topic for anyone else to complain about off-topic comments.

  15. It is off-topic to for any one else to complain about complainers.

  16. If you have a suggestion for different or new rules, send them to me directly so that the people on the list can concentrate on fixing cars.  Do not send them to the list as only one of the 3000+ people on the list decides what the rules are -- me!

  17. If a violation of one of the other rules is serious enough, appropriate action will be taken.   It will range from private admonishment to public humiliation to banishment from the list.
