This adapter comes with an OBD-II type connector which plugs right in to most 1994 and newer VW's and 1996 and newer Audis.   Most 1990-1995 Audis and 1990-1993 VW's have the "2x2" data link connector, click here for more info.

Extending this Interface:

The cable on this adapter is about 6 feet long -- just right for most laptops.   If you want to use this interface with a desktop PC, you will need a standard serial (DB9M to DB9F) extension cord.   We usually stock extensions in 15' (3m), 25' (7.5m) and 50' (15m) lengths.   See the order form for pricing.

Known Issues:

A few models of cars have extremely tight trim around the OBD-II connector.  The MAX-COM uses an OBD-II connector that is sometimes difficult to fit easily into the following cars:  

•  Audi A4 Models with diagnostic connector next to rear ashtray.   US: 1996 only.   Rest of World: 1995-2001 (all 8D chassis).    US models from 1997 through 2002 are fine.
• Audi A6 models with diagnostic connector in center-console between seats.    US:  1996-1997 (sedan) and 1996-1998 (Avant).    Rest Of World:  Likely the same. 
• VW Passat 3B Chassis with diagnostic connector in center-console between seats (1997-2002)   Non-US models only!  US models have diagnostic connector under dash and work fine.
